Cut oil
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000932
Crude oil that contains an emulsion of water and sediment in concentrations exceeding the acceptable limits for pipeline transportation or sale. This oil requires further treatment in separators, heater-treaters, or with chemical demulsifiers to reduce its basic sediment and water (BS&W) content. Pipeline specifications usually limit BS&W content to less than 1%, with oil above this threshold being rejected as off-spec.
