Slugging compound

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003466

A chemical added to a crude oil sample to break emulsions so that all the water and sediment separate out when the sample is centrifuged. It allows the total basic sediment and water to be read, since tightly emulsified water otherwise stays in the oil layer and the reading comes out low. It is a demulsifier used in BS&W laboratory tests, not a weighting agent.
