Demulsifier

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000994

A chemical additive designed to break emulsions by separating the dispersed phase from the continuous phase. Demulsifiers work by migrating to the oil-water interface, weakening the stabilizing film created by emulsifying agents and allowing the dispersed droplets to coalesce. They are used to treat unwanted emulsions in drilling fluids or to separate oil and water during production testing, with effectiveness tested by a bottle test.
