Heater treater
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001801
A vessel used at a production facility to separate an oil and water emulsion by applying heat to accelerate the process. The unit contains a fire tube that heats the emulsion, reducing the oil's viscosity and weakening the emulsifying film around the water droplets, which then coalesce and settle out by gravity. Treated oil flows from the top of the vessel, while free water is discharged from the bottom.
