Gravity segregation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001740
The natural separation of fluids with different densities under the influence of gravity. In oil and gas production, this principle is used in separators and tanks to separate gas from oil, and oil from water. Heavier fluids settle to the bottom, while lighter fluids rise to the top.
