Eustasy

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001335

Global changes in sea level caused by variations in the volume of water in the oceans or the capacity of ocean basins. These changes are independent of local tectonic movements and can significantly influence the depositional patterns of sedimentary rocks, affecting the distribution and preservation of potential hydrocarbon source and reservoir rocks. Eustatic cycles are often linked to glacial and interglacial periods.
