Fill cement
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001394
A lower-density, lower-cost cement slurry, also called lead cement, pumped first in a primary casing job to fill the annulus above the zone of interest. It is the larger-volume partner of the tail slurry, which is denser and stronger and is placed last across the zone to be isolated. Extenders such as bentonite or microspheres lower its density and the hydrostatic pressure on weak formations.
