Fines migration
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001420
The movement of small, unconsolidated particles (fines) within the reservoir rock pores due to fluid flow, which can lead to pore throat plugging and reduced permeability. This phenomenon can significantly impair hydrocarbon production. Fines migration is often triggered by changes in fluid chemistry or flow rates.
