Secondary migration
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003296
The movement of hydrocarbons from a source rock into a reservoir rock, and then within the reservoir rock to a trap. This migration occurs after the initial expulsion of hydrocarbons from the source rock (primary migration). Secondary migration is driven by buoyancy and pressure gradients, often through permeable pathways.
