Frac iron

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001558

The temporary high-pressure surface piping that carries fracturing fluid from the pumps to the wellhead, built from straight pipe sections, swivels, elbows, tees, check valves and plug valves joined by hammer unions. Components are rated for pressures of 10,000 to 15,000 psi and wear from abrasive proppant, so wall thickness is inspected and each assembly is pressure tested before use. API Standard 16FI, published in 2026, covers design, manufacturing and use of this equipment.
