Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001711
An organic compound, typically ethylene glycol or propylene glycol, used as an additive in water-based drilling fluids to inhibit hydrate formation and improve shale stability. Glycols function by lowering the freezing point of water and by interacting with clay surfaces to prevent swelling. Concentrations can range from 5% to 30% by volume.
