Paraffin

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002690

A waxy hydrocarbon compound, primarily composed of straight-chain alkanes, that can precipitate from crude oil as temperature and pressure decrease during production. Paraffin deposits can accumulate in the tubing, flowlines, and surface equipment, restricting flow and reducing production efficiency. These deposits are typically removed through hot oil treatments, mechanical scraping, or chemical inhibitors.
