Plug and abandon

To permanently seal a wellbore with cement plugs and other barriers to prevent the migration of fluids between subsurface formations or to the surface. This procedure is carried out when a well is no longer economically viable or has reached the end of its productive life. Regulatory agencies specify the exact requirements for plug and abandonment operations.
