Random error
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003044
The component of measurement uncertainty that causes repeated readings of the same quantity to have unpredictable, non-reproducible variations. These statistical fluctuations are caused by factors like nuclear counting statistics in nuclear logs or electronic noise in sensors. Unlike systematic error, random error can be reduced by averaging multiple measurements, as its mean value approaches zero over many observations.
