Saltwater flow
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003233
An uncontrolled influx of formation water, which is often saline, into the wellbore during drilling operations. This occurs when the hydrostatic pressure of the drilling fluid is insufficient to counteract the pressure of the formation water. Saltwater flows can dilute the drilling fluid, alter its properties, and potentially lead to well control issues.
