Attapulgite
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000206
A type of clay mineral, also known as palygorskite, used as a viscosifier in saltwater drilling fluids where bentonite is ineffective due to flocculation. Its needle-like particle structure provides good suspension properties and high yield points in high-salinity environments. Attapulgite is commonly used in offshore drilling operations where seawater is the base fluid.
