Salt proximity survey

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004440

A geophysical technique for determining the distance and geometry of a salt body relative to a planned or existing wellbore. It uses seismic sources at the surface and receivers in the well to record reflected energy from the salt face. The travel times of these reflections are then processed to create an image of the salt flank, guiding well path adjustments to avoid unintentional penetration of the salt or to target adjacent reservoirs.
