Multishot survey

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002492

A method for determining a wellbore's trajectory by taking a series of photographic or electronic measurements of inclination and azimuth at multiple stations inside the drillstring. The survey instrument is lowered into the well and records data at predetermined intervals as it is retrieved or run in the hole. Unlike a single-shot survey which takes one measurement per trip, a multishot survey provides a more complete and accurate path of the wellbore, which is required for directional drilling and geological correlation.
