Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003263
A short, sacrificial threaded adapter placed between the drill string and the kelly or top drive system. Its purpose is to protect the more expensive and difficult-to-replace threads of the kelly or top drive from wear and tear during repeated make-up and break-out operations. When the threads on the saver sub become worn, it can be easily replaced, extending the life of the primary drilling equipment.
