Storm choke
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003632
A subsurface safety valve controlled by conditions at the valve itself, with no control line to surface. It closes automatically when the flow rate through its bean rises above a preset value, or when ambient pressure falls below a preset value, as after wellhead or flowline damage. Storm chokes are installed in the tubing, often as wireline-retrievable valves, in wells without surface-controlled valves.
