Bottomhole choke
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000415
A device with a restricted orifice installed in the production tubing near the bottom of the well to control the flow rate of reservoir fluids. By creating a pressure drop downhole, it prevents the rapid expansion and cooling of gas that can lead to hydrate formation higher up in the tubing. The choke's bean or orifice size is selected based on production testing and reservoir performance models.
