Melt pool

Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000225

A localized volume of molten material formed during powder bed fusion or directed energy deposition processes in additive manufacturing. This transient liquid phase is created by the focused energy source, such as a laser or electron beam, interacting with the raw material. The size and stability of the melt pool directly influence the solidification behavior and the final microstructure of the printed part.
