Abiotic transformation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000038
The conversion of a chemical from one form to another within the environment by non-biological means. This process alters the chemical structure of a substance through mechanisms like hydrolysis, photolysis, or oxidation, without direct action by living organisms. Unlike degradation, which implies breakdown, transformation can also result in a product that is more complex or toxic than the parent compound.
