Aitken particles
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000361
Atmospheric aerosol particles with diameters typically ranging from 0.005 to 0.1 micrometers. These ultrafine particles are primarily formed through gas-to-particle conversion processes, such as the condensation of sulfuric acid and organic vapors. They are too small to scatter visible light efficiently but are numerous and can act as cloud condensation nuclei.
