Amplification of deoxyribonucleic acid
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000522
The production of multiple copies of a specific sequence of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), starting from a minute quantity of the original genetic material. This process increases the concentration of the target DNA sequence to a level that can be readily detected and analyzed. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is the most prevalent method for DNA amplification, capable of generating billions of copies from a single starting molecule through repeated cycles of heating and cooling.
