Azo imides

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001052

The N-imides of azo compounds, in which one azo nitrogen carries an extra substituent and a negatively charged imide nitrogen, giving a charge-separated 1,3-dipole of the form R-N=N+(R)-N(-)-R. They are analogous to azoxy compounds, where oxygen takes the place of the imide nitrogen. The common name azimines is discouraged, and the charge is delocalized over the N3 unit.
