Bone cement
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001429
A self-curing polymeric material, typically polymethyl methacrylate, used in orthopedic surgery to fix prosthetic implants to bone. It functions as a grout, filling the space between the implant and the bone surface to provide mechanical stability. The polymerization reaction is exothermic, and the material hardens within minutes of mixing.
