Bulk polymerisation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001536
A polymerization process carried out with only the monomer and a monomer-soluble initiator, without the addition of any solvent or dispersant. The reaction mixture is initially a liquid but becomes increasingly viscous as polymer chains form and grow, which can present challenges for heat removal and mixing. This method is used for producing materials like cast polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) sheets and polystyrene.
