Bulk mesophase
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001535
A continuous anisotropic liquid-crystalline phase of pitch that forms when mesophase spheres coalesce during pyrolysis. It stays fluid and deformable up to roughly 500 °C, then loses further hydrogen and light species and solidifies into green coke. It is the stage after the discrete spheres and before solid green coke.
