Pitch

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008982

A highly viscous, amorphous, and dark-colored residue obtained from the distillation of coal tar, petroleum, or wood tar. It is a complex mixture of high molecular weight aromatic and heterocyclic compounds. Pitch is widely used as a binder in carbon products, a sealant, and a precursor for carbon fibers.
