Nuclear graphite

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008101

A high-purity form of graphite specifically manufactured for use in nuclear reactors as a neutron moderator and reflector. It must possess extremely low neutron absorption cross-section and high thermal conductivity. This material is produced from petroleum coke or coal tar pitch precursors and undergoes extensive purification.
