Graphite
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005005
An allotrope of carbon consisting of layers of graphene sheets stacked parallel to each other. Within each layer, carbon atoms are covalently bonded in a hexagonal lattice, while adjacent layers are held together by weaker van der Waals forces. It is a good electrical conductor and is used in pencils, lubricants, and electrodes.
