Rhombohedral graphite

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010344

An allotrope of carbon with a crystal structure where the hexagonal layers of carbon atoms are stacked in an ABCABC sequence. This contrasts with the more common hexagonal graphite, which has an ABAB stacking sequence. Rhombohedral graphite is less stable than hexagonal graphite and can transform into it upon heating.
