Piscivorous
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008981
Relating to an organism whose diet consists primarily of fish. In ecotoxicology, piscivorous animals such as certain birds, mammals, and larger fish are studied as indicators of aquatic ecosystem health. Because they occupy high trophic levels in the food web, they are particularly susceptible to the biomagnification of persistent, bioaccumulative toxins like mercury and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) present in their prey.
