Piscicide
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008980
A chemical substance intended to kill fish, often used as a pesticide for managing fish populations. These agents are applied to water bodies to control invasive or undesirable species, or to remove all fish from a habitat before restocking with desired species. Rotenone, a compound derived from plant roots, is a common piscicide that acts by inhibiting cellular respiration, though its use is regulated due to toxicity to other aquatic organisms.
