Brooks and Taylor structure
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001515
The internal layering of the anisotropic spheres that separate from isotropic pitch during pyrolysis, in which flat aromatic molecules form parallel layers arranged around the sphere's polar axis, their edges meeting the boundary with the surrounding pitch at right angles. The spheres are the earliest visible stage of carbonaceous mesophase. The arrangement is named for the two researchers who reported it in 1965.
