Closed-loop extraction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002135
An extraction in which a fixed volume of gas is pumped around a closed circuit, stripping volatile analytes from the sample and passing them through a small sorbent trap, usually activated carbon, where they accumulate. The trap is then eluted with a few microlitres of solvent for gas chromatography. The method underlies closed-loop stripping analysis of trace organic compounds such as odour compounds in drinking water.
