Coordination polyhedron
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002558
The geometric arrangement of the atoms directly bonded to a central atom in a coordination entity. The vertices of this polyhedron are occupied by the donor atoms of the ligands, and its shape is determined by the number of ligands and their spatial orientation. Common geometries include octahedral, tetrahedral, and square planar arrangements.
