Defoliant

A chemical substance applied to plants to induce the premature shedding of their leaves. This action facilitates harvesting operations for crops like cotton or potatoes by removing foliage that would interfere with machinery. Defoliants are distinct from herbicides, which are designed to kill the entire plant.
