Deformation vibration

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002921

A type of molecular vibration where the bond angles within a molecule change, rather than the bond lengths. These vibrations involve the bending, wagging, rocking, or twisting motions of atoms around a central atom or bond. They are observed in infrared and Raman spectroscopy and contribute to the unique spectral fingerprint of a molecule.
