Deuterium
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003094
An isotope of hydrogen, often symbolized as D or 2H, containing one proton and one neutron in its nucleus. It is approximately twice as heavy as protium (1H), the most common hydrogen isotope. Deuterium is widely used as a tracer in chemical reactions and in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy due to its distinct nuclear spin properties.
