Electric displacement

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003632

A vector field that accounts for the response of a dielectric material to an external electric field. It is defined as the sum of the vacuum electric field contribution and the material's electric polarization density, representing the density of free surface charge on a conductor within the field. The SI unit for electric displacement is coulombs per square meter (C/m²).
