Exciton annihilation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004192
A process in which two excitons interact, leading to the de-excitation of one exciton and the transfer of its energy to the other, which then de-excites non-radiatively or emits a photon of higher energy. This phenomenon reduces the overall quantum efficiency of light-emitting devices. It is particularly relevant in organic semiconductors where exciton densities can be high.
