Experimental perturbational calculation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004228
A computational check on a least-squares fit in which the calculation is repeated many times with the input data deliberately perturbed, usually by random numbers drawn from a distribution that mimics the experimental uncertainties. The spread of the resulting outputs shows how sensitive the final results are to errors in the input and so estimates their uncertainty. It is a numerical resampling of the data, not a change made to the physical experiment.
