Exposure test

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004250

Biological monitoring in which the amount of a potentially toxic compound, or of its metabolites, taken up by an organism is quantified in blood, urine, hair or similar samples, and the result is interpreted to estimate the absorbed dose or the degree of environmental contamination. The term also covers measuring biochemical changes that are not themselves adverse and relating them to the quantity absorbed or to the ambient concentration. It differs from a toxicity test, in which test animals are deliberately dosed to observe effects.
