Hemosiderin
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005204
An iron-storage complex formed within cells, particularly macrophages, when there is an excess of iron. It is derived from the breakdown of ferritin and appears as golden-brown granules under a microscope. Accumulations of hemosiderin can be observed in tissues following hemorrhage or in conditions of chronic iron overload.
