Highly oriented pyrolytic graphite
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005294
A form of pyrolytic graphite that has undergone post-deposition heat treatment and mechanical compression to achieve a high degree of crystallographic alignment. This process results in a material with exceptional anisotropy in its physical properties. It is often used as a substrate in scanning probe microscopy due to its atomically flat surfaces.
