Ingestion

The act of taking a substance into the body through the mouth, where it then passes into the gastrointestinal tract. This is a primary route of exposure for many chemicals, drugs, and food contaminants. Following ingestion, substances undergo digestion and absorption, with their effects depending on their chemical properties and dose.
