Inifer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013192
A compound that acts as both initiator and chain-transfer agent in a polymerization, so every molecule starts chains and passes a functional end group to them. The term comes from cationic polymerization of isobutylene, where a multifunctional tertiary chloride used with boron trichloride gives chain-end functional polymer. It differs from an iniferter, which also works as a terminator.
