Iniencephaly
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005856
A rare and severe congenital malformation of the central nervous system involving extreme retroflexion, or backward bending, of the head. This neural tube defect is characterized by an opening in the occiput (back of the skull) and defects of the spine (rachischisis), resulting in a shortened neck. The condition is lethal, with affected infants being stillborn or dying shortly after birth.
